As I’m listening to satellite televisions in 5 languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish, and German), I’m getting a rather “weird” feeling in the stomach that there’s more to what we’re seeing on Italian mainstream medias. Were the Americans involved? Was a 20M$ ransom paid out?

It goes nearly unreported that Ingrid is one of 15 persons freed. There were also 3 U.S. Defense Department contract workers — Thomas Howes, Marc Gonsalves and Keith Stansell, which had been kidnapped when their aircraft crashed on a counter-narcotics mission in 2003. The other 11 prisoners were Columbian police officers and soldiers.

Newsworthy (CNN link) is the fact that John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, was in Colombia on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of a three-day Latin American trip. He was told of the raid the night before by Colombia’s president Uribe when they met, but still everybody keeps saying that his visit had “nothing to do with the rescue”. Read what some bloggers write about this on Voices without votes. On the other hand, it appears that Barak Obama wasn’t informed beforehand of the rescue mission. Hummm…
